Will my evaluation or treatment hurt?

What is the average number of visits patients typically need?

If you have had a long standing problem for many years you may need more visits. The number of visits are individualized and customized based on findings in the initial evaluation and progress each week.

Do you follow a particular technique?

A multitude of manual techniques is used in order to correct dysfunction, alignment and to promote meaningful function. No one technique is the answer for everyone.

Should I bring previous medical records?

All information is helpful. You may want to bring in operative reports to have them explained to you so you can thoroughly understand your condition.

Will you be in touch with my doctor and will my doctor be informed about what is going on with my treatment?

Yes, if you sign the disclosure form included in our “Signature Required” packet and you want a report sent.  If not, your visits are strictly confidential.

Should I bring anyone with me?

Feel free to bring whomever you want. All visits are confidential and private so it is your decision to have another person present.  Of course we do welcome chaperones/ and or partners to come to treatments if you wish.

What should I wear?

Bring running shorts or gym shorts if you like, but it is not necessary. We provide exam and treatment gowns.

Can I bring my child/ren?

Yes. Children are always welcome if no other option is available.

What should I do if I have my period?

Generally there is no need to reschedule unless you have an infection. If you have heavy flows or cramps on your first day, you may feel more comfortable rescheduling.

Is there parking nearby?

Yes. There is metered parking along Bishop Allen Drive (parallel to Massachusetts Avenue) as well as two metered parking lots. You can also find two pay parking lots at Green St. and Pleasant St. right behind the post office and just two blocks from our building. Does Dr. Herman accept my insurance?

No.  Dr. Hollis Herman is an “out of network” provider. This means she does not take insurance directly and you must pay in full at the time of your visit. However, some insurance companies do reimburse or cover a percentage of visits or payment. Sadly, HMO insurance companies will not. I have created an Insurance Benefits Worksheet that is designed to help you ask the right questions to your insurance company about reimbursement.  Some insurance companies require pre-certification or pre-authorization before your initial consultation. It is important that you give yourself a week to complete pre-certification BEFORE your first appointment. Furthermore, it is a good idea to take down their name and number and any other important information for future reference.

A special note to patients with Medicare: Dr. Herman does NOT accept Medicare and patients cannot be reimbursed by Medicare for visits with her.
